
The Fire Department
The New Caney Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1963 and has since been proudly serving the residents of East Montgomery County, Texas. To meet the increase service demands of the community the fire district was converted from a rual fire prevention district on October 14, 1995 to Montgomery County Emergency Service District No. 7 (ESD #7) which operates under Chapter 775 of the Texas Health & Safety Code.
Montgomery County Emergency Service District No. 7 5-person board of directors are appointed by the Montgomery County Commissioners Court and is responsible for providing fire suppression and EMS first responder services to its community. Montgomery County Emergency Service District No. 7 receives its funding from a property tax rate of .10 cents for every 100.00 dollars of property value as regulated by the Texas Constitution and a half-cent sales tax from with in the boundaries of the fire district.
In June of 2006, ESD #7 board of directors assumed responsibility for the daily operation of the fire department. The board of directors hired the department's first full-time fire chief, Jeff Taylor. The fire chief reports directly to the ESD #7 board of directors and is tasked with management of combination fire department finances, personnel, emergency operations, and day-to-day operation of the fire district.
The New Caney Fire Department provides protection to the more than 23,000 residents in it's 66 square miles. As combination fire department it's dedicated staff of paid career firefighters and volunteer personnel proudly provide service to the district's residents of EMC. In January 2010 the department added six full time firefighter positions and presently employ's fifteen full-time firefighters staffing three shifts at its two fire stations in the New Caney community.
The department responded to more than 2,300 incidents in 2008. The fire district operates from two fire stations which houses: two engines, three tanker trucks, one heavy rescue truck, one rehab unit, two booster trucks, one water rescue boat, and two medical response vehicles.
